Deep Dive into Station Eleven Part 3

Part One

"What was the Symphony without Dieter and the clarinet and Sayid? Kirsten had thought of Dieter as a sort of older brother, she realized, perhaps a cousin, a fixture in her life and in the life of the symphony. It seemed in some abstract way impossible that the symphony continued without him." Page 141 - I chose this quote because it shows how close everyone in the Traveling Symphony is and when one goes missing or leaves for whatever reason, it hits everyone pretty hard emotionally.

"Jackson appeared in the doorway. 'There's a skeleton in the men's room.' August frowned. 'How old?' 'Old. Bullet hole in the skull.' 'Why would you look in the bathroom?' 'I was hoping for soap.' " Page 129 - I chose this quote because this book was already kind of dark, but it just gets so grim out of nowhere. Like they found a skeleton rotting in a men's bathroom with a bullet lodged in its head. But then they kind of lighten the mood by making a joke about finding soap. It might've not been necessarily a joke, but I found it kind of funny. 😂

Part Two

For the Utopia project, I plan to write to focus on getting rid of cancel culture and having proper freedom of speech. The dystopia that is created could be caused by one of two things. The dystopia could be caused by people focusing way too hard on everyone having freedom of speech and their own opinions, or if the dystopia would be really similar to 1984 where no one is allowed to think differently or have their own opinion about ANYTHING because cancel culture has gone out of control.

Part Three

Violence hasn't really died down in this world. People are going missing and as I mentioned at the beginning of this post, they found a skeleton with a bullet lodged in its skull. People are still as cutthroat as ever in this world.

Jeevan realizes that he just has to keep walking. He can't hold on to the past, he just has to move forward. "Keep walking. Keep walking. Keep walking."

I think memory is holding some people back in this world because as I mentioned above some people can't move on from the past.
