Is my smartphone hurting me?

So, we all read two different articles with two different views. The first one was titled "Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?" and was written by Jean Twenge who discussed how she believes that smartphones have destroyed teenagers because they've messed with kids' social skills and have caused depression and other horrible things. "There is compelling evidence that the devices we’ve placed in young people’s hands are having profound effects on their lives—and making them seriously unhappy." -Jean Twenge.      But the second article, written by Abigail Fagan and titled "No, Smartphones are Not Destroying a Generation", argues against Twenge and her opinions. Fagan discusses how biased Twenge is and talks about how she leaves out "social context" and how some teenagers differ from others. She also states, " The data the author chooses to present are cherry-picked,  by which I mean she reviews only those studies that support ...

Field Trip

Waterfall - Objective The droplets of water fall into the river below, echoing throughout the Japanese Garden. The waterfall peaks out behind multiple trees, almost hidden by leaves that hang before it. The water in the river races around the rocks that act as obstacles to the oncoming mini flood. When standing close enough to it, the watery smell is almost overwhelming, as it makes one think that they are standing over a massive lake.  Benteen Do - Subjective The bright red roof celebrates its colors by overlooking the garden surrounding it, it's colors only being comparable to the bridge horizontal from it. The beams stick up on the roof looking as if it was skateboard ramp, ready to send someone into the sky. The culture that this building brings to a foreign land that's "culture" is to do stupid dance moves for an app is unbelievable. Memories of playing video games as a youth pour in as I stare at the Japanese hut, remembering the time I had to go back in time t...

A Call To Adventure

My Very Boring Life Summed Up in a T hree Page Essay   So, when I was told that I had to write an essay about some sort of adventure I had over the weekend , to be honest, I was a little upset, especially when it stated in the instructions that I need to try to do something I have never done before. I kept asking myself the same question repeatedly , what have I not done before? What can I do this weekend that I have never done before? I could walk to the Mall of America and scream like a goat. I’ve never done that before. Or attempt to somersault around my whole entire neighborhood , that’d be new for me. But then I realized something: I work this weekend! I can’t attempt to do anything new! I’m going to be trapped at a pizza place, putting toppings on pies for a good chunk of the day. Well, I would’ve if that’s what my job was going to be t hat day.    So, I work at Davanni’s and when you get there to start your shift, there’ s a little sheet of pa...

A Writer is a Reader Foremost

" He leaned back in his desk chair, letting out an exasperated sigh before leaning forward so that his textbook was in the direction of his vision. Isaac reluctantly forced his eyes to be glued to the textbook, and the words and sentences that were filled inside of it. He made sure his phone was turned upside down, that way he was not distracted by any activity that was going on in any group chats he was apart off. Isaac bounced his leg rapidly, trying to stay focused on the readings that lay in front of him. But it was hard for him His mind slowly began to wander, drifting off into the inescapable dimension of daydreaming, where thoughts unrelated to schoolwork ran supreme..."      One of my BIGGEST problems when it comes schoolwork (Or just writing in general) is daydreaming. I have a very active mind that starts to think about other things: Superheroes, ideas for my book, professional wrestling, etc. I just to learn to focus on the topic at hand so...
